Is that a leprechaun I see?  On March 17th it just might be.  St. Patrick’s Day, the cultural and religious holiday in Ireland, has a remarkably different vibe on this side of the Atlantic.  It’s an unofficial celebration in America where street parades, the color green, and copious consumption of beer is the order of the day.  Chicago even dyes its entire river in a Kelly green color!

At Flutter FETTI, we know a party when we see one and this day is one of the best.  If you’re going to spend the time celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, you might as well do it right.  Here are 5 fun ways to keep that luck o’ the Irish all day long:

1.  Top O’ The Mornin’ To Ya

Since St. Patrick’s Day parades kick off during the morning hours, the party has to start even earlier.  If you plan on attending events, cheering on the parade, or drinking until the wee hours of the following morning, then you need to start your day with a full Irish breakfast.  The hearty meal typically consists of fried eggs, bacon rashers, meaty sausages, black pudding, buttered toast, and a fried tomato.  Not your cup of tea?  Then whip up some pancakes and dye the batter green with food coloring.  Use a shamrock-shaped cookie cutter to make those green pancakes even more appealing or try giving your children a nifty ‘green eggs and ham’ plate!

2.  Go Green

Now is your chance to finally look like a leprechaun… or the Hulk.  Get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit by wearing everything and anything green!  Green t-shirts, green dresses, and green shoes will help you blend in with the great green sea of revelers and paraders.  Step it up one more notch by putting shamrock stickers on your cheeks, adding a fake leprechaun tattoo to your arm, or painting your entire face.  Street vendors, bars, and stores are also keen to sell you big funny hats, tiaras, and crowns that support that same green theme.  Gentlemen who wish to stand out from the crowd should consider wearing a kilt.  Although traditionally a Scottish garment, it’s a symbol of Irish identity too and any man brave enough to wear one is a popular man at the St. Patrick’s Day party.  To cap it off, load your pockets and purses with Kelly green 6” Flutter Flicker Confetti Launchers.  As you wander through the crowds, flick a few from your hands – they’re the perfect assets to get the party started!

3.  Support The Troops… of Parading Locals

The people partaking in your local St. Patrick’s Day parade, including the marching bands, scout troops, military veterans, and cultural groups, deserve your support.  Don’t just stand there and clap a little – show them you really care!  As the floats, vehicles, and marchers pass by, sprinkle them with customized Kelly green tissue confetti from your 14” Flutter FETTI Confetti Sticks!  You can also customize them with green, white, and orange, the colors of the Irish flag.  The parade participants will be ecstatic and the whole crowd will go absolutely wild!  You can also make a funny banner that says, “If you’re enough lucky to be Irish, you’re lucky enough!” or “In Heaven there is no beer that’s why we drink it here!”  The slow procession will love it!

4.  The Gift of Gab

Legend has it that St. Patrick had the ability to persuade almost any man through words.  Think you have what it takes to be like St. Patrick on St. Patrick’s Day?  Embrace his legendary gift of gab and speak with an Irish accent all day long.  If you don’t think you’ll fool a soul, then stick to singing instead.  Head to the local pub and belt out some Irish classics like “The Night Pat Murphy Died” by Fiddler’s Green (yeah, they were a German band, but hey who’s counting?).  Continue the fun by dancing and singing to “Devil’s Dance Floor” by Flogging Molly.

5.  Celtic Crawl… To The Pubs

The parades may die down by early afternoon, but that’s exactly when the pub scene comes to life.  Head to your favorite Irish pub and imbibe the classic spirits of Ireland, such as Guinness, Killian’s Irish Red, and Murphy’s Irish Stout.  Better yet, link up with other partiers and participate in a local pub crawl to visit one enthusiastic St. Patrick’s Day establishment after another.  As you walk from pub to pub, unleash a few 18″ Airless Confetti Launchers filled with Kelly green Tissue FETTI on the crawling crowd and electrify the whole scene.  Be sure to take some time in between drinking rounds to chow down on traditional corned beef and cabbage.  And try not to drink too much because you might start seeing those little leprechauns – remember, we warned you!
